Ryukenkan Dojo
In 2004, our Head Instructor and Founder, Marty Rickard brought the most authentic version of Seiyu Oyata's Ryukyu Kempo Karate to New Zealand.
Now, over 20 years on, Ryukenkan Dojo offers the most comprehensive and authentic Ryukyu Kempo experience available in New Zealand.
Ryukenkan Dojo operates in Tauranga, New Zealand and offers the most affordable and complete Ryukyu Kempo experience to the Tauranga public.
Ryukyu Kempo
Ryukyu Kempo is a traditional Okinawan martial art that encompasses striking, grappling, pressure point techniques, and weapons training. The art traces its lineage back to the ancient fighting methods of the Ryukyu Islands (modern-day Okinawa, Japan).
Our curriculum is based on the teachings of Taika Seiyu Oyata (1928-2012), who was one of the foremost authorities on Okinawan martial arts. Taika Oyata dedicated his life to preserving and teaching the authentic methods of Ryukyu Kempo.
