Move from easy to difficult and from simple to complicated. More time is required to train longer and harder as you progress. Do not hurry or engage in senseless or reckless practice. Develop gradually.
Students testing 5th Kyu are required to demonstrate:
  • Niseishi kata
    • Sequence and Flow must be present, no jerking or stopping
    • Speed and power present in most techniques
    • Expression allowed
    • Expectation is that performance must match that of previous kata
  • Kumi Bo Two
    • Sequence must be present without error
    • Able to demonstrate both Sakugawa and Tsuji parts interchangeably
    • Drill performance must flow, no jerking or stopping
    • Able to demonstrate both Kumi Bo 1 and 2 interchangeably
  • Bridging
    • Able to demonstrate bridging against partner
    • Bridge into Noodling, switch to other drills as requested
  • Closing
    • Able to demonstrate closing from minimum 1 body length
    • Minimal telegraph
    • Minimal timbering
    • Close to bridge, switch to other drills
  • Constellations & Webs:
    • Students should be able to transition from noodling to all previous drills, then return to noodling as called.
